Oil giant Chevron is a global producer of oil and gas, with major operations in the North Sea. The asset inventory for this area comprises 27 individual oil wells, 5 top side platforms and 476 miles of sub-sea pipeline.

Chevron were looking for an Asset Performance Management system to implement a new data integration architecture to integrate data from a number of different multiple systems, in order to improve the cost efficiency of its’ asset operations. This would also require a methodology for measuring actual cost efficiency by both process and asset, and benchmarking these measures across the whole asset inventory.

We were able to implement a complete data integration architecture comprising a single data historian for process data (OSI’s PI, a data warehouse for laboratory and SAP R/3 data) which enabled total integration of data from the other systems.

Quick wins were soon identified and management strategies put in place to harvest them. They were also able to identify best practice in the operations and replicate it across the business, improving overall operational performance, as they were able to have direct access to a one view window on their operational performance.

Chevron saved $1.6 million per year in one oilfield using C3 global to manage chemical spend.
